Why see Redwood?

A Brand new musical

After a decade away, the one and only Idina Menzel marks her Broadway return in this brand new musical, set to open in the spring of 2025!

Conceived by Menzel and director Tina Landau, with a book by Landau, music by Kate Diaz,  and lyrics by Diaz and Landau Redwood celebrates the inspirational power of nature, following the heartbroken mother Jesse (Menzel) on a transformational journey into Northern California's breathtaking redwood forests.

After a La Jolla premiere in February 2024, Menzel spoke of her excitement at bringing the show to the East Coast, raving in a statement: "I'm so thrilled to be returning to Broadway, and the fact that I get to do it with a musical that means so much to me, makes it even more special...This show has lived in my bones for 15 years, from the very first time Tina and I discussed working together. Finally getting to do it on Broadway is really a dream come true."

From Elphaba to Arundel and beyond

Starting as she meant to continue, Menzel's career got off to a bang in 1996 when she appeared in the original production of Rent, her first professional theater role. The musical won a Pulitzer and Menzel earned her first Tony nomination. Seven years later she would be nominated once again, and this time win, for her performance as the original Elphaba in Wicked. Since then, she's gone from strength to strength, appearing in numerous musicals and shows, and demonstrating her dramatic chops on the silver screen, with roles in Kissing Jessica Stein and Ask the Dust, and of course, voicing the ice Queen Elsa in Disney's Frozen franchise.
