Stereophonic Wins Big At Tony Awards 2024

The Rock and Roll Story Won 'Best Play' and more!

After getting rave reviews across the board from critics during its opening week, Stereophonic took home 5 Tony awards last night at the annual event. The play, written by David Adjmi, took home the prestigious Best Play' awards as well as director Daniel Aukin winning Best Direction Of A Play', Will Brill taking home Best Performance By An Actor In A Featured Role In A Play', Ryan Rummery winning Best Sound Design Of A Play', and David Zinn taking the Best Scenic Design Of A Play' award.

With songs by Will Butler of Arcade Fire, this heavily buzzed production takes you on a wild ride through the day-to-day of five rock musicians making an album in the early 70s. The story itself is one of infighting, frustration, romance, and rock'n'roll (all the things you'd expect from a disagreeing 70's band). David Adjmi notes he drew inspiration from iconic band Fleetwood Mac and came up with the idea while listening to Led Zepplin and pondering "What would it have been like to be in the studio when this was being recorded?".

Last year, the Off-Broadway run of Stereophonic garnered critical acclaim, with The New York Times describing it as "relentlessly compelling". It's not only the story that has been gaining attention, the production has won over countless hearts with its original songs, written by former Arcade Fire star Will Butler. This new Broadway show is something not to be missed, by music and drama fans alike.

Stereophonic is currently playing at the John Golden Theatre. Buy tickets here.
