What does Andrew Lloyd Webber think of Cats - The Jellicle Ball
The veteran composer's feline hit meets 1980s Ballroom culture in this brand new re-imagining.
Now playing at the Perelman Performing Arts Center, Cats - The Jellicle Ball announces its third extension, giving you the chance to experience this 1980s Ballroom-themed production of the classic feline frolic until September 8.
Recently receiving a VIP audience member in the form of the show's original composer and conceiver Andrew Lloyd Webber himself, it looks like this drag-inspired production has earned the cream in the form of a review from the man himself, who released a statement today after his visit. Enthusing on the show, Lloyd Webber gushed:
"I have rarely seen an audience respond with as much joy and love as I saw recently at Cats: 'The Jellicle Ball. The atmosphere was, quite simply, electric. Cats and Ballroom culture both emerged in the same era and I am delighted that, all these years later, they are intersecting once again. I want to congratulate the entire team behind this special show!"
Based on T.S Elliot's collection of poetry, Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, Cats originally premiered on Broadway in 1982, following its debut in London the year before. An Olivier and Tony-winning success, it ran at the Winter Garden Theatre until September of 2000 for a total of 15 previews and 7,485 performances, making it the second longest-running show in Broadway history, a record it still holds today.
