Broadway's Swept Away Announces Closing Date
The Shipwreck Musical Ends December 15
The Avett Brothers musical Swept Away has announced its final performance will be on November 15. After beginning previews on October 29 and officially opening at the Longacre Theatre on November 29, the shipwreck-themed musical will conclude its run after a total of 32 regular performances.
Despite receiving mostly positive reviews from critics, the box office numbers have unfortunately not been sufficient enough to cover the costs of the 16-member cast.
Swept Away follows the harrowing tale of a whaling ship that sank off the coast of Massachusetts in 1888. Only four men survive the storm: a seasoned captain, his disgraced first mate, and two brothers, with the older brother vowing to protect the younger. The story explores their struggle for survival and redemption.
The production team expressed their pride and gratitude in a statement: "We are deeply proud of this beautiful production and the years of work that it took to get to Broadway. We will forever be indebted to our fantastic creative team, our loyal actors, and all of our co-producers and, in turn, their investors, for believing in this production and taking a risk on new work."
The talented cast is led by John Gallagher Jr. as Mate, Stark Sands as Big Brother, Adrian Blake Enscoe as Little Brother, and Wayne Duvall as Captain.
With only a few performances left, be sure to grab your tickets now before Swept Away bids farewell!
