The Cher Show Is Bright And Dazzling
Now playing at the Neil Simon Theater
It's the event that the world has been waiting for...The Cher Show officially opened at the Neil Simon Theater on Broadway last night! With the iconic singer herself giving her blessing, what did the critics think?
The New York Post called the show 'bright, shining, bedazzling'. In a production that features three different actors taking their turn as Cher at different points in her life TimeOut New York praised Stephanie J. Block (who stars as Star Cher) saying, '...the terrific Stephanie J. Block in a full-throated impersonation that avoids the trap of the impersonal - dominates the proceedings'.
The Hollywood Reporter had mixed feelings about the production, calling it both 'trashy-flashy, tacky vintage-Vegas kitsch' and 'slyly fabulous' in one sentence. They continue with '[The Cher Show] is imbued with a plucky feminist spirit that's quite stirring.'
What is The Cher Show about?
The Cher Show turns back time to chronicle the star's early life growing up poor in Los Angeles, her first gigs as a back up singer, her meeting and marriage to Sonny Bono and their stratospheric rise to fame as the country's favorite duo and beyond to solo success. Expect to hear some of her greatest songs. From 'Believe' to 'Gypsys, Tramps and Thieves', 'The Shoop Shoop Song' and more.
The Cher Show is currently playing at the Neil Simon Theater through to May 26.
