Flying Over Sunset has left some critics divided with its unusual and escapist journey to the depths of the human psyche

For starters, Broadway News were big fans. They called the new musical by Pulitzer-prize winner James Lapine "ambitious and frequently moving", with a lot of praise for the book, score and lyrics all created by some of the industry's best. Others weren't as kind unfortunately, with Vulture asking the question all new productions have nightmares about... "How DID this get made?"

The musical - if you're unaware - was always going to divide opinions right from the start. Take three well-known 'Golden Age of Hollywood' celebs and imagine what they'd all talk about if they took acid together. That's about as far from safety of Wicked or The Lion King as you can get. Perhaps in our post/mid-Pandemic frame of mind, it's all just a bit too far out of our comfort zone? Maybe the world just isn't ready to see Flying Over Sunset for what it is intended to be - a psychedelic reflection on the beauty and fragility of life.
