This was the first theatre show I've been to in a long time, and it made me sorry I hadn't been going more often! It was really beautiful, poetic, and visually scrumptious. The cast is full of real pros, true talent, and the Dracula is a wonderful new discovery who really touched me...something one doesn't expect from a creature of the night! I'm taking my girlfriend and her kids next week. Thumbs up! Wear your garlic, everybody!

THE DIRECTOR DID IT

One of my nearest and dearest worked on this production, I think it's important to call everyone's attention to the fact that there was not one good idea from anyone on the creative team -- from costumes to casting -- that was not entirely tossed aside by a TRAGICALLY BAD DIRECTOR. He simply knew everything (NOT!!!) and listened to no one. Not one note was given to any of the actors -- not one note in 8 weeks! Most of the casting was done without even consulting the casting office. Changes in where doors and windows should go were requested after the set was built and in the theatre. None of the costumes were made to accommodate the blood . . . and then, when they got in the theatre the director decided he wanted the blood. There were lots of Tony Awards amongst the company. It was a damn good group. It became laughable because they had a clown for a director.

This show is so miscast, and poorly directed, it is hard to express any enthusiasm for it. DRACULA suffers from talent that has been cast in the wrong show. Firstly, Mr. Mailer's good looks and chiseled body- evident through his costume- is all wrong for the creepy, whacky, jittery, deranged Renfield. Too good looking to be feared and too tall and mascualine to be believed that he is a twig under the Count's spell. A man of his build able to get through bars on the windows??? Then there is Lucy- the alleged frail, demure, sweet, innocent, delicate flower- Hey! has anybody in casting looked at this woman? She would snap Dracula in half on his first attempted bite. All wrong and UNBELIEVABLE!!! The fiance Jonathon has so much quiet time on stage I think he is thinking, "What the hell am I doing here in this ill-fitted suit? Willa Kim, c'mon!!!???!!! Willa, you made the pants too long!!! (On Seward & Van Helsing). As for Dracula-please give him wig approval on his next show.Sets r good.
