Parsifal 2018
First time seeing Parsifal on stage, but quite familiar with music and story. Carolyn Choa's choreography is worth a comment as it presented the Klingsor castle as, well, scary. I liked the synchronous gesturing. Easy to miss symbolism such as cross poses by the women. I highly recommend this production for Wagner gourmets. You can take children because the act 2 is not lurid. Spend $5 for a cup of coffee if you wish.
A very long day's journey into night
To stay awake, that's the major problem of Wagner's last opera, Parsifal. I dozed starting in Act one but awoke to fabulous drumming, loud wonderful orchestra and splendid choral contribution. This came after 2 hours of tedium, like a nice pleasant sleeping pill.....I hope I didn't snore.... The sets were interesting if illusive and chorus stage placement was always an enigma. Maybe some of the reduced size audience understood better than me. There were no dragons but there was plenty of magic and religious sexual moments. No nudity and Kundry's sexy dress to captivate Parsifal was a large size white nightgown. BLA
