I saw this show in London twice some 20 years ago. It became one of my favorites and saw it again last night at Lincoln Center and it was as magnificent as ever. Guess what? I have tickets for July 22nd. The music, book and performances are first rate. It was a pleasure seeing Daniel Lavoie (Frollo) again after all these years. Angelo Del Vecchio as Quasimodo was outstanding. Thank you Notre Dame. Thank you Messrs. Plamondon and Cocciante. Am I a fan? What do you think? BRAVO Del Vecchio, Tawaji, Lavoie,Schiaretti, Lepine, Pledneault , Jay and all those wonderful and amazing dancers.

Went last night and it was grand! I have to say that all aspects of the show were exceptional! The principal stars were outstanding but so were the dancers and simply the overall presentation made it a real pleasure to watch and listen to. A great theatrical experience. I wholly recommend it and congratulate the players! Jolaine Ratelle Craig

Great show overall, but translation of lyrics was shockingly awful

I absolutely love this musical, and I’ve been wanting to see it live for a few years now. I had seen the original recording on TV, and know most of the songs by heart. I wasn’t sure if the production in New York would be in English and I was delighted to hear that it was in the original French because I love the beautiful poetic lyrics. Sadly, glancing at the English translation of the lyrics on the two screens on either side of the stage, I was in turn disappointed and shocked to see how poor the translation was and how many good lines were transformed and sometimes simply mistranslated. There are too many examples to list, but one that stood out to me was the translation of Frollo’s song “Tu va me detruire.” Those words mean “you will destroy me” but were translated to “your love will kill me.” I think it’s self-explanatory why this translation is so poor. I felt really sad that my friend, who is not a French speaker, didn’t get the full power of those beautiful lyrics.
