Man, a lot of idiots go to the theater to see movie stars

And miss one of the greatest plays ever written. I was excited to see Denzel, but just as much to see Morse, Meany, Irwin, and the others, and frankly, my impression was that most of them were more seasoned stage actors than Mr. Washington, who had some problems projecting. But he delivered big with the famous lengthy monologue at the end. Not as great as Jason Robards (who I saw play Hickey in '85), but he beat Kevin Spacey hands down. Wolfe's staging is quietly innovative. There are points where it's a bit rushed, because of the play's length--often a problem with Iceman. Contrary to what the idiots say, people were laughing at all the right parts, and never at the wrong ones. The entire cast got a standing ovation from the packed house at the end, well-merited. I really don't know what to say to somebody so vapid who would see this brilliant production about the delusions and vanities of humankind and think only "Why didn't Denzel stick around to sign my Playbill?"

Otherwise a go to sleep depressing performance. And the Theatre is a fire Trap....very claustrophobic...Thankfully I never had a chance to spend $8 for a bottle of water as lines were too long because waiting area too small.... however it is getting five stars because Denzel delivered as expected and is a force whether on stage or behind the screen!!!

LOVE DENZEL

DENZEL is always in a class by himself. Appreciated the labor and hard work he provided. It was appreciated. He can bring life to any character. Denzel played a character but a little of him shined through. Great mix. Great job DENZEL. That being said. The female characters did not add any value to the play what-so-ever. The other male characters did a great job but it was difficult to understand the exaggerated language. The only person I understood was DENZEL. The play is way too long. When you are waiting to see Denzel time seems to stand still because the other scenes are not meaty or entertaining enough to keep my interest. A good play should be no longer than 2 1/2 hours. The theatre is intimate but uncomfortable. Make no mistake, Denzel is the reason for a sold out show. Not to single anyone out but I think Denzel should have come out one last time to greet his audience.

surpassed my expectations

Eugene ONeill doesnt kid around. He dares to show the poverty, misery and hopelessness of that era. Life is as it is pointless and always fails but to see the characters and their struggle with their dreams and how even though poor and alcoholic find solace in their community of others and life keeps going, day after day, is moving to say the least. Until Denzel in a powerful, explosive, dynamite, performance awakens them to their fears and traumas and they all momentarily see their traumas but these are too harsh to grapple with, therefore, drinking it is. Denzel, however, faced his traumas, and he was forced to take action which has repercussions. Dilemma still exists, to be or not to be. And how to be. Acting is superb by most of the actors. Take a snack with you and get water in the theater before you start because lines are too long in the intermission and there is no time to serve everyone. Prepare for a an emotional roller coaster which will send you high!

Demanding play; bad venue

CONS: - I am 5'8" and if I didn't have an aisle seat to occassionally stretch my legs I do not think I would have made it through the entire 4 hour play. Seats are TIGHT. - Acoustics are shockingly bad making it very difficult to understand some dialogue. There are headphones to rent, though. PPL: Turn off your phones, including text message beeps, please. Do not take photos. Act like you have been to a theater before. PROS: - Acting was superb. His name escapes me but the actor playing the former anarchist (the older one from St Elsewhere) was very good as was the father from The Fighter. I think the ensemble as a whole was spectacular. Very good acting. I enjoyed Mr. Washington immensely although I got a "Training Day" vibe in a couple of scenes which didn't really fit.

Great Show
