Fun Fact: Beetlejuice (originally a film by Tim Burton) was named after the ninth brightest star, Betelgeuse Star, which is known as the doorway to infinite blackness of outer space. 

Target Audience: Fans of this cult classic film will get a great thrill from the Broadway adaptation, and anyone looking for a bizarre and FUN night out. 

Best Bit: Sophie Anne Caruso (Lydia) sings like a rising rock star and Alex Brighton (Beetlejuice) is out of this world!

Morning After Effect: A very clever look at life and death! 

This is a story about death. Yes, death. The opening sums it up quite well and sets the tone for this fantasy comedy horror based on Tim Burton's 1988 film with the same title. At the top of the show we learn that Sophie Anne Caruso (Lydia) is slightly obsessed with death, having recently lost her mom she sings "Invisible" and "Dead Mom", her performance stirs up a great mix of emotions and her voice is utterly unique! Alex Brighton (Beetlejuice) jumps in hoping to be her new BFF and educates the audience on what's to come with "The Whole Being Dead Thing", his comedic timing is perfection and his physicality clownlike as he desperately tries to be resurrected throughout this obscure and hilarious musical.   

Australian writer Eddie Perfect (Music & Lyrics), Scott Brown and Anthony King (Book) have done a marvelous job creating this quick-paced mischievous musical, brilliantly directed by Alex Timbers. In fact, every department shines in this production, David Korins quirky scenic design would not be complete without Kenneth Posner's lighting design, and then there is Peter Nigrini's whacky projection design making it all coming together as we transition between reality and the realm of the dead.   

I will be honest, I was apprehensive to see Beetlejuice, assuming it would be a silly musical reaching a small target audience. I was horribly wrong! The performances are larger than life with excellent choreography (Connor Gallagher) and I had such fun watching this show! I felt like a child completely swept away by the costumes (William Ivey Long), magic and illusions (Michael Weber), special effects (Jeremy Chernick) and puppetry (Michael Curry)! 

Beetlejuice is a show for all generations and will make you feel alive! Despite the eccentricity at its core this is a story about family, love and making the most of every "Day-O"! One thing we can learn from Beetlejuice is that life needn't be so serious, just ask the dead.
