New York Philharmonic - An Alpine Symphony and Bernsteins Serenade at David Geffen Hall at Lincoln Center

Why see New York Philharmonic - An Alpine Symphony and Bernsteins Serenade?

epic and romantic

Under the baton of Santtu-Matias Rouvali, witness the New York Philharmonic Orchestra magnificently perform two stunning pieces in the classical canon; Richard Strauss' truly epic An Alpine Symphony and Leonard Bernstein's romantic Serenade, the latter featuring the talents of violinist Esther Yoo.

Whilst his previous eight tone poems contributed to his status as one of the most celebrated and controversial composers of his time, Strauss' ninth tone poem An Alpine Symphony solidified his place amongst the legends. Comprised of a staggering the 50-minute orchestral epic requiring 125 instrumentalists, the piece magnificently evokes the sonic portrait of a man conquering a mountain. Meanwhile, Bernstein's Serenade is a captivating violin concerto, inspired by Plato's Symposium and imbued with lush melodies and poignant emotional depth.
