Why see Metropolitan Opera - Siegfried?

It's a love story

Prepare yourself for The Met's revival of Wagner's spectacular Ring Cycle, last seen in 2013. A popular favorite with all audiences, the sprawling saga invites you to enter a dense world of warring Gods, monsters and mythology, scored by one of opera's most famous and bombastic composers. Magnificent in scope and featuring some of the most unforgettable music in the repertoire, don't miss your chance to see it performed by the renowned company, in one of the most glorious and sumptuous productions on the planet.

The third in the chronicle, Siegfried has it all - tempestuous gods, a fearsome dragon, a courageous hero and a passionate romance. Featuring the Ring Cycle's most light-hearted and joyful music, Christine Goerke reprises her role as Brunnhilde with Andreas Schager and Stefan Vinke sharing Siegfried.

Siegfried

Concerning the son of doomed lovers Siegmund and Sieglinde, Siegfried is the tale of a child raised with no fear, to be tool to conniving foster father Mime, brother of original ring-bearer Alberich. Mime thirsts for the power of the unholy band, and trains the unwitting Siegfried to defeat the giant Fafner, who now holds the ring and has transformed into a fearsome dragon.

Surely a suicide mission, Siegfried re-forges his father's legendary sword and sets out to slay the beast, whilst discovering the root of fear when he encounters the beautiful Brunnhilde, trapped within a ring of flames and loosing his heart forever...
