East meets West in Cirque Du Soleil's bright and colorful Dralion. The show's name is taken from a mythical creature that is a fusion of these two cultures, part dragon and part lion. This blend runs throughout the show, with bagpipes, tango, hip-hop and the creatures of the show's title mixing together in a spectacular that is uniquely Circue Du Soleil.
Dralion is one of Cirque's most beautiful shows. All of the colour costumes are color coded in relation to the elements, so all the performers are swathed in watery greens and fiery oranges. Of the acts on display, the most iconic are the Dralions themselves, stunningly costumed Chinese dragons, who take to the stage with a troupe of acrobats in a wondrous and thrilling dance and gymnastic sequence.
The other acts include the hoop divers, a band of ten artists who spiral and leap through stacks of rotating wooden hoops, and the aerialists, who seem to defy gravity on their massive trampolines. Of course no circus is complete without clowns, and Dralion's trio of comedians are experts in the art of slapstick, and always delight in plucking people from the audience to join their buffooning.
Dralion has been touring the world since 1999, and is the Candian troupe's 12 production. Catch it when it plays in , ,
