Ben Platt at Palace Theater

Why see Ben Platt?

Ben Platt Live At The Palace

Ben Platt is one of Broadway's most recognized performers, best known for originating the role of troubled teen Evan Hansen in all three of Dear Evan Hansen's Washington, Off-Broadway and Broadway productions.

Not only winning a Tony but also a Grammy for his title role, Platt's powerhouse voice and acting chops have rightfully found their way to a collaboration with Lin Manuel Miranda, as well as roles on 'Pitch Perfect', the Dear Evan Hansen movie and much more. Join Platt as he christens the stage of the newly refurbished Palace Theatre in this exciting new residency where he'll be displaying his epic vocal prowess in celebration of his upcoming third album, Honeymind.

Doubts Be Damned

Ben Platt puts on a gorgeous performance in a gorgeous theater, prompting me to attend the show twice. Though he can seem awkward or anxious when speaking to the audience, his vocals shine through in a selection of consistent near-perfect performances of original work and covers--not a bad note was hit either night. Even those who are unfamiliar with his work leave appreciators of his talent. The crowd was on their feet on multiple occasions--covers of Maybe This Time and Somewhere Over The Rainbow serving as both a nod to the icons of Palace Theater past and a response to why he deserves a spot on that stage. Rather than asking why Platt is the one to open up the Palace with a three-week residency, it is important to consider who COULD perfectly sell out 30,000 seats across shows on their own right now? Very few names--Broadway or not--could. Maybe a residency was not the best way to reopen the Palace, perhaps it could have been a shorter run, but Platt effortlessly swings the bat. ... Read more

INCREDIBLE EVENING!!

At 55 years old, I've seen thousands of LIVE shows and last night..September 29, 2019 @ Radio City Music Hall in nyc, ranks right up there with the best of them. Ben is a true entertainer with his vocal chops, crazy, wonderful movements, raw and honest emotion, comedic wit and crowd chatting. The band behind him, I believe 11 pieces, were all top of the shelf players. I'm not gonna lie, when the three incredible backing vocalists launched into an a beautiful acapella section, I was so blown away that my eyes welled up with such strong emotional response. To top it off, someday soon, I can watch the exact concert over and over again on Netflix. A hard 10 Stars, and it was easy to see 6,000 other folks in attendance were in agreement. ... Read more
