Why see McNeal?
Robert Downey Jr.'s Broadway Debut
It is said that a good writer borrows and that an even better one steals.
Jacob McNeal, portrayed by Academy Award winner Robert Downey Jr., exemplifies the latter in this wickedly captivating story. As one of the most acclaimed authors of our time and a perpetual contender for the Nobel Prize in Literature, McNeal's brilliance is unquestionable....however, his personal life is far from perfect; he has a strained relationship with his estranged son, a freshly penned novel that stirs up old grudges, and an unsettling obsession with Artificial Intelligence.
Beneath The Story
Pulitzer Prize-winner Ayad Akhtar's latest play explores the complexities of one man's psyche whilst offering a provocative and intellectually sharp exploration of the inevitable humanity - and growing inhumanity - of our complicated times. Under the direction of Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher, this play promises to be an examination of the stories we craft and the truths they reveal or conceal.
Ayad Akhtar boasts an impressive repertoire including the 2016 Tony-nominated Junk, the 2012 Pulitzer-winning Disgraced, and is currently working on the Broadway adaption of the hit movie La La Land. The play is also under the direction of Tony-winning Bartlett Sher, celebrated for his renditions of South Pacific in 2008 and To Kill a Mockingbird in 2018.
