Tony's Series: Give In To Temptation With Ain't Too Proud
Owner of TWELVE Tony nominations!
The Des McAnuff helmed production of Ain't Too Proud - The Life and Times of the Temptations opened to rave reviews back in March. Now with twelve Tony nominations to its name, Ain't Too Proud is the toast of the Spring Broadway season!
Written by Dominique Morisseau Ain't Too Proud charts the group's success, from humble beginnings in Detroit to international super-stardom! Although the focus is on the plethora of top ten hits that The Temptations were blessed with, Ain't Too Proud also dives into the five pieces somewhat torrid personal lives.
Although their personal lives were strewn with rumors of domestic abuse, addiction, and political upheaval (as well as a never-ending cycle of new bandmates) it didn't stop the group from releasing hit after hit! Over the course of the '60s and '70s, The Temptations celebrated eight number one albums and fifteen top-ten singles!
Here's what the critics had to say -
"Buoyed by the suave choreography of Sergio Trujillo and thrill-a-minute performances by such stars-in-the-making as Jeremy Pope and Ephraim Sykes, 'Ain't Too Proud' proves to be two or three cuts above the standard-issue anthology pop musical"
- The Washington Post
"This jukebox musical not only has life, it also has wit, intelligence, while also looking stunning and full of energy"
- Daily Beast
"As for the performance of those songs...they're pretty close to perfection"
- The New York Times
DID YOU KNOW?
The Temptations are still going! Having had many different members over the years, Otis William's is the sole original member and has been a part of the groups 43 albums and 109 singles!
