New York City's theater scene is heating up and it's not because of the weather!

An exciting lineup of Broadway and off-Broadway productions are captivating audiences and critics alike. From brand new productions to revivals, stages across New York are brimming with unforgettable performances. 

Here's a look at some of the most anticipated plays currently lighting up the Big Apple in 2025. 

Oh Mary!
Lyceum Theater
Until June 28

After delighting audiences at the Lucille Lortel Theatre, Cole Escola's brand new play hits Broadway! Oh Mary! Is a dark comedy following former United States first lady Mary Todd Lincoln, whilst they break down her life from the inside, and in Escola's own words, through the lens of an idiot. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt star Tituss Burgess stars as Mary Todd Lincoln until April 6, ahead of Cole Escola and the entire original Broadway cast returns on April 8. Time Out declared the production as "the funniest play in years" and Theatremania saying "laughs are rarely more than a few seconds apart. It is, without a doubt, the funniest comedy on Broadway right now".

Othello
Ethel Barrymore Theater

The stars are set to swap the screen for a Shakespearean script as Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal headline a Broadway revival of Othello! Directed by the acclaimed Kenny Leon, this highly anticipated production sees Washington taking on the role of the titular Moorish general, while Gyllenhaal steps into the shoes of the infamous villain Iago. The production recently became the highest grossing play in Broadway history, kicking Harry Potter and the Cursed Child off the top spot!

Stranger Things the First Shadow
Marquis Theater
Open Run

Taking us back to the town of Hawkins in 1959, this new story by Kate Trefry, the Duffer Brothers, and playwright of the moment, Jack Thorne, features some of the Netflix show's favorite characters, including a young Jim Hopper, Joyce Maldonado and Bob Newbie as they grapple with the first shadows of danger in the sleepy small town. With an award-winning creative team (including Jamie Harrison and Chris Fisher the wizards behind the incredible stagecraft over at Harry Potter and The Cursed Child), expect breathtaking special effects that push the limits of possibility when you enter this brand-new addition to the Stranger Things dimension!

The Picture of Dorian Gray
Music Box Theater

Fresh off her acclaimed run in London's West End, Sarah Snook, best known for her role in Succession, brings her smash-hit one-woman production of The Picture of Dorian Gray to Broadway. Created by Kip Williams, this production will use both live performance and video to create a vivid and exciting new iteration of the tale of the morally ambiguous artisto, who remains as young and vital as ever while his hidden portrait gathers the scars of his many sins. This five star production has been hailed by critics, with Vulture saying "Clever, delicious, and performed by Snook with the giddy virtuosity of Simone Biles executing a floor routine, it reaches the gut and the heart lightly, thrusting like a fencer, by way of its playfulness and spectacle."

Glengarry Glen Ross

2025 is shaping up to be a bumper year for screen actors making their Broadway debuts as this starry revival of David Mamet's Pulitzer Prize-winning play joins the roster, with both Bill Burr and Bob Odenkirk making their stage bows alongside Sucession and 2025 Academy Award winner Kieran Culkin. Directed by the Tony-winning Patrick Marber (Leopoldstadt), this much-anticipated revival marks the classic play's third Broadway outing since its premiere in 1984 - the very production that lured a young Marber into his career! He explained the upcoming project: "The play blew my young soul away. It was one of the reasons I wanted to work in theatre. Forty years later, I am so thrilled to be directing it on Broadway with these incredible actors. I will do my utmost to ensure that this great American play brings audiences the same great pleasures it brought to me."

Good Night, And Good Luck
Winter Garden Theater

A-list Hollywood star George Clooney makes his long-awaited Broadway debut in this stage adaption of the 2005 Oscar-nominated movie Good Night, and Good Luck. (directed by Clooney himself). The play is directed by Tony-winner David Cromer and is based on the original screenplay. Set at the height of McCarthyism, Clooney plays broadcaster Edward R. Murrow as he faces off with U.S. Senator McCarthy in a televised, history-making event that finally saw the tide turn on the senator's rampant and largely baseless campaign against the 'communists' he believed to be infiltrating much of American life, media and politics.
