Funny Girl

Why see Funny Girl?

The hugely anticipated revival - ending on September 3, 2023!

With Lea Michele as Fanny Brice - as seen on Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade 2022!

Classic musical theatre lovers will be overjoyed to hear that Isabel Lennart, Jules Stein and Bob Merill's iconic show, Funny Girl, is returning to the Great White Way! Starring Glee's Lea Michele, Tovah Feldshuh and Ramin Karimloo, this exciting new production is helmed by Micheal Mayer (Spring Awakening) and marks nearly 60 years since the show was last seen on the main stem.

What is the story?

Funny Girl is the semi-biographical tale of Fanny Brice, a legendary vaudeville entertainer who rose to fame in 1920s and 30s America. Determined to become a big star, she headed into showbiz despite warnings from her mother and friends that she wasn't a 'typical beauty.'

Undeterred, she went on to become a film and stage actress, model, radio star and beloved comedienne filled with gusto and exuberance! But her troubled private life also hit the spotlight - her stormy relationship with the sophisticated Nicky Arnstein has many ups and downs, not least his gambling problem.

With a nostalgic and clever book from Isobel Lennart and music and lyrics from Jule Styne and Bob Merill, including hits such as 'Don't Rain on My Parade' and 'People', Funny Girl is the story of Fanny's rise to fame and her passionate relationship with Nicky and how the outcome of his terrible business decisions led her to take a minute and reflect on what's important in life.

Outstanding

I saw a funny girl with beanie Feldstein. She was OK. But it just wasn’t right. I went back to see Lea Michelle do the role tonight. after having Covid she was spectacular. She performed every song and every step without a hitch. She brought a whole new life to the part. It seemed as though even the cast was enjoying it more. She will have a long run in the show. And because of her the show will stay on Broadway. Let’s hope that she can be considered next year for a Tony. Well deserved. Thank you Lea Michele and Cast For a great night. Remember! Your best critics are the public. I never heard such thunderous applause. ... Read more

People need people now

Great original score with an additional number which isn’t needed. Beanie’s interpretation of Fanny Brice is pretty pretty good. Nobody can be Barbara. The actor playing Nick Arnstein is awesome. Excellent voices by all. Shout out to Jane Lynch for her top performance. In these times, it was great to see a classic Broadway musical and be back in NYC. See this show before tickets become difficult to obtain. People need people NOW! ... Read more
