King of geek pop Ben Folds has embarked on yet another adventurous collaboration for his new album. He's teamed up with six-piece New York instrumental outfit yMusic and the resulting album, in Folds' own words, is "a record we've never heard before". It features rock arrangements but played without bass or drums, with yMusic's cellos, violas and flutes filling in for their absence. Ben Folds is far from the first alternative act this classical quintet have worked with, backing up The National, My Brightest Diamond and Sufjan Stevens in the past.
They're heading out on tour in support of their joint effort, so expect to hear a wealth of new material mixed in with choice picks from Folds' lengthy solo career and work with the Ben Folds Five. Your ears might also be treated to a version of his 2013 work Concerto for Piano and Orchestra, which is also getting a physical release in 2015. Catch them when they play in , ,
