Girl From The North Country

Why see Girl From The North Country?

Ready to capture Broadway's Heart

After a five-time Olivier award-nominated run in London in 2017 and a critically acclaimed Public Theater run off-Broadway in 2018, Conor McPherson's (book and director) Girl From The North Country is on Broadway! Featuring the music of Bob Dylan, Girl From The North Country tells the story of one small town in Minnesota who are left reeling from the Great Depression.

In this spellbinding and exquisite musical we dive beneath Dylan's iconic work and discover the extraordinary characters that inspired him. Featuring songs like "Hurricane", "Tight Connection To My Heart" and the titular "Girl From The North Country" this ethereal and folksy tuner will transport you to Depression-era Duluth, where we meet a boarding house owner on the edge of ruin and the citizens of the town who flock to it. Some are there for the long haul, some are there fleetingly, but within each lies equal measures of tragedy, hope, and humanity.

With heart-wrenching stories mixing with goose-bump inducing arrangements, Girl From The North Country is sure to capture Broadway's heart.

From London To Broadway

Debuting at London's prestigious Old Vic Theatre in the summer of 2017, Girl From The North Country transferred to the Noel Coward Theatre in London's West End in early 2018. Garnering five Olivier Award nominations, including Best New Musical and Outstanding Achievement in Music, Girl From The North Country won two for its two leading ladies, Sheila Atim and Shirley Henderson. Breaking hearts and selling out wherever it lands Girl From The North Country is the one theatrical event not to be missed.

Great Play

This is simply a great play. The music, the acting and the different scenes are well done. It is easy to follow, there is nothing confusing and this play is not hard to follow. The actors are great, and professionals. Do not deter yourself from seeing this great piece of art. Those who gave it 1 star are jealous period. ... Read more

Glorious from start to finish

What a wonderful and gripping piece of entertainment! Every song beautifully done and nothing but warmth throughout despite the heavy nature of the actual subject of the play. Felt like I was back on Broadway with such high quality performers. No need to go the Broadway for a play if you live in SF! ... Read more

Utterly superb

Just go, see and feel The Gypsy... This is Theatre at its ultimate best. Hits the central nervous system slap bang where you least expect it. Shirley Henderson could and should NOT ever be replaced. Tip to enjoy the play to the extent of its unconscious creation- always keep one of your eyes ‘peeled’ on Shirley. Somehow Shirley captures the pure essence like a distilled lavender essential oil or captured fragile rose petals made by the enfleurage process. There is an alchemy at play here. Bob Dylan’s tunes and lyrics; Conor McPherson’s naive but sound choice of songs and journey of the story. The Band’s wild and gentle interpretation of the tunes. The entire cast’s energy, concentration and love for the play and story. It is magnificent. I loved it. I say “naive” because Conor never lived through Dylan’S music. Kieren Hynd’s told me that Conor is the most lovely, genuine and kindest person you could wish to meet. (I don’t know Kieren but met him near London Theatre. Xx ... Read more
