Why see Hedwig and the Angry Inch?

A brand new hedwig takes to the stage

Part comedy, part drama, Hedwig is guaranteed to be a highly memorable theatre experience for fans of the original film and newbies alike (so long as you're not suffering from a rare sequin allergy!).Rent alum and Broadway royalty Taye Diggs is the latest actor to don the wig and step into the limelight - he will perform the lead role of Hedwig from July 22nd to October 11th for a strictly limited engagement!

Hedwig and the Angry Inch was first seen Off Off-Broadway at Westbeth, after which it ran at the Jane Street Theatre for over two years from early 1998. The groundbreaking Obie-winning Off-Broadway smash went on to win multiple awards for its cult film adaptation of the same name. This Broadway revival continues the trend, earning eight 2014 Tony Awards nominations and winning four, including Best Revival of a Musical and Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical for its glittering (literally) star, Neil Patrick Harris.

This production has seen a string of A-list actors done the wig and take on this challenging and highly demanding lead role, making it one of the most-talked about revivals out on Broadway right now!

What is Hedwig and the Angry Inch About?

Hedwig and the Angry Inch is a musical about a fictional rock 'n' roll band led by an outrageous transvestite singer named Hedwig, formerly a slip of a girly German boy named Hansel, who flees East Berlin for the USA. The story is told from Hedwig's perspective as the audience "follows" her and her band as they tour the country in the shadow of rockstar Tommy Gnosis.

Hedwig and the Angry Inch won the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway Musical, and both John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask won Obies. Hedwig and the Angry Inch won a 1998 New York Magazine Award and Entertainment Weekly's "Soundtrack of the Year" Award.

Simply incredible

I saw Hedwig when Darren Criss was performing and I must say it was incredible! I'm not a big Glee fan but know of the show and the stigma attached, so to see him screaming and writhing on stage as a (very!) angry and passionate transgender rock star was pretty different to the clean-cut boy you see in tabloids! The show itself was amazing and the music made it feel like you really were at a rock concert. I'd go again if I lived in New York City... in fact I'd go each time a new Hedwig takes the stage! ...
