Why see Once?

Winner of Eight Tony Awards

Based on the 2006 Oscar winning indie sleeper-hit, Once is the low-key Broadway hit that has re-defined the modern musical, telling the story of a wistful Dublin romance.

Told in a rapturous pub, the audience is invited to join in with the actors/musicians, who's double talents heighten the organic feel of the show, creating an irresistible hootenanny vibe that keeps you at the heart of the action, with songs such as Academy Award winning 'Falling Slowly' and 'Leave'.

With subtle choreography and a charming, minimalistic approach to staging that The New York Times called distinctive and unlike anything previously seen on Broadway, this swelling and celebratory production will pull at your heartstrings with its existential and accepting nature that encompasses everybody.

What is Once about?

A passive busker named Guy is playing guitar when he meets Girl, with whom he shares a connection through a mutual love of music. The shy kindred spirits start to make music together, mixing their complementary style to create a melancholic folk-rock sound that explores the themes of love and loss.

Over the course of a week their lives change forever, there is poignancy and where there is a joyous celebration of love, there is also a bitter-sweet feeling that will stick with you long after you've left the theatre. This will not disappoint fans of the original movie and new theatre.

Did you know

Director John Carney sketched out the outline for the original movie in five minutes when sitting in a cafe in Dublin in 2004, because he was missing his girlfriend who'd taken a job in London.

Great show , rude stage manager

My husband and I went to see Once over the weekend. We loved the music and the entire performance. Unfortunately, the part that left a bad taste in my mouth was how rude the woman that was on the stage, telling people where to stand in line to get their drinks was to everyone. She spoke to us all in a nasty tone and treated us all like we were idiots. The woman behind me even commented by saying " I thought this was supposed to be fun" . Leaving the stage after realizing that it was cash bar, my husband quickly pulled out cash for me and the rude woman yelled" make up your mind. Get on or off the stage!" . Not a way to treat anyone! Just a bad experience at a great show. ... Read more

A unique, intimate and engaging musical!

A unique, intimate and engaging musical! Quirky characters and witty one-liners combine perfectly with a heartfelt and inspiring story-line which saw me captivated from the first song. The extraordinary talent of the leads makes you feel privileged to be in the audience, and I guarantee you will be humming at least one of tunes on your way home. ... Read more
