Gary - A Sequel To Titus Andronicus

Why see Gary - A Sequel To Titus Andronicus?

Brand new for 2019

Don't miss Nathan Lane in this seven-time Tony nominee, now closing on June 16!

Hot off the success of his Tony win in 2018, Nathan Lane returns to tread the boards of the Great White Way opposite Andrea Martin in this brand new comedy by Taylor Mac. A sequel to William Shakespeare's bloodiest play, Gary is the story of those who're left behind to clean up after the tragedy ends. As much a sequel as a critique of politics and the current state of the world, Gary marks Mac's highly anticipated Broadway debut as is sure to have plenty of (hopefully still attached) tongues wagging this season.

A wrathful tale of a political coup in ancient Rome with roughly 5.2 atrocities per act, the aftermath of Titus Andronicus is where we lay our scene, where the clown, Gary, and his fellow servants are tasked with sorting out the mess left behind by this frenzy of revenge and power struggles. Being one of the few surviving, there is plenty of time for pontificating on the whys and wherefores of those in power- especially why they always leave to the little guys to clean up their mess.

Hillarious, Bloody Hilarious !

People go to plays having no idea what they’re going to see. It’s a mistake. I loved this play. The acting is superb - a case study in comedy - the directing is brilliant the set is brilliant. It’s a thoughtful play which on its way to making its point happens to be uproariously funny to a majority of the audience. No one who’s written here for whom it wasn’t their cup of tea, can deny they weren't surrounded by people laughing their butts off throughout of the play. Happened to me on the two lucky occasions I had to see the Gary in preview. Bloody Hilarious. Don’t miss it if you think you’ll like it. It’s brilliant. ... Read more

Fun and irreverent

This play is not for everyone. As other reviewers have noted there are a lot of penises and poop/fart jokes. However the context: when the mighty fall they are just filled with gas and poo like everyone else and it is always the ones on the bottom left to clean up the mess, is completely relevant in today’s world. The language can be difficult at times, but the acting was outstanding and the play was often laugh out loud funny. No, i didnt understand every single line or concept, but it is a unique and singular experience regardless. I don’t see this having a long run because of a lack of universal appeal, and because I cannot imagine who but Nathan Lane could pull this off so, if you do choose to go, enter with an open mind and enjoy the ride. ...
