Named for the legendary string orchestra that brought marvellous melodies to the ears of the French aristocracy, Les Violons Du Roy was founded in 1984, cultivating its own world class reputation by becoming the foremost interpreters of the chamber music repertoire with a focus on the Baroque and Classical periods. While they play with modern instruments, the outfit employs meticulous research into the playing methods of the 17th and 18th centuries, allowing for distinct historical accuracy.
The group now leaves their home city of Quebec, Canada to tour a program of Bach's works. A master of instrumental composition, his keyboard and violin concertos are melodically rich, virtuosic flights of technical and emotionally nuanced brilliance.
