Soul Doctor

Why see Soul Doctor?

Soul Doctor is a new Broadway musical which tells the fascinating story of Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach, the beloved yet controversial father of popular Jewish music.

Carlebach escaped Nazi Germany when he was just a child and moved to New York City when he was in his teens.

Encounters with several key musicians helped fuel Carlebach's musical career, including Bob Dylan, Pete Seeger and Nina Simone. Today Carlebach's song-writing has been embraced by people from many religions as spiritual music and had a major impact on popular Jewish music.

Stars Eric Anderson and features over 30 of Shlomo's timeless hits.

Music lovers haven

I was astounded that every seat in the house is a good seat because the seating chart kinda gave a different point of view. I was very pleased with my seats and enjoyed the show immensely. As a music lover of different kinds it was fantastic and there was audience interaction whereby everyone was clapping with the songs. The plot was excellent and I learned about Nina Simone's and Shlomo Carlebach past. I felt exhilarated upon leaving the show therefore I highly recommend it. ... Read more

Ignore the critics

Forget the reviews, they're a mixed bag anyway. I had seen the 2012 version and went to this with hesitation after seeing some of the critics but, IMHO, it remains as it was——pure entertainment: beautifully staged and performed with delightful musical numbers. I may see some 50 shows a year and ones like this are a pleasure to attend. Some say it isn't "Fiddler" but so what, it's easily as enjoyable. ... Read more
