On a barren moor in the Scottish Highlands, a bloody tale of ambition and horror unfolds as a General returning from battle encounters a trio of prophetic witches. Initially dismissive of their claims, it isn't long til Macbeth and his wife find themselves at the center of a cut-throat conspiracy to seize power, by any means necessary. Directed by John Doyle, Shakespeare's popular tragedy opens Classic Stage Company's 2019/20 season in gruesome style.

Visceral, with a supernatural element, Macbeth explores the all-consuming allure of power as the Macbeths desperately seek it. Ambitious and ruthless, the couple set about murdering just about everyone in their vicinity in order to take the throne. But once power is attained, they find that it is difficult to hold on to. Macbeth becomes ever more tyrannical, his wife descends into a frightening madness and as their unwavering want for glory grows, a bloody Civil War erupts, costing them a whole lot more than their sanity.
