Celebrated conductor Gustavo Dudamel leads the New York Philharmonic Orchestra through three stellar works featuring a world premiere, a commission from a legendary composer, and a celebratory work from one of the 20th century's greatest boundary-pushers. Composer and soprano Kate Soper's Orpheus Ochestra Opus Onus, Stravinsky's Symphony in Three Movements and Philip Glass's Symphony No. 11 all get an airing in a magnificent concert at David Geffen Hall.
Stravinsky's Symphony in Three Movements was commissioned during the Second World War for the New York Philharmonic and was referred to by the composer himself as the "War Symphony". Glass's Symphony No. 11 was premiered at Carnegie Hall, celebrating both his 80th birthday and the legacy of a singular artist who helped shape contemporary classical music. Soper's world premiere meanwhile features the composer lending the orchestra her vocal talents for the performance.
