Why see New York Philharmonic - Maurizio Pollini?

Living Legend Maurizio Pollini Performs For One Night Only

Considered one of the most accomplished performers of his generation, as well as one of the foremost interpreters of Beethoven, Chopin, Schumann, Brahms, Schoenberg, Weber and Schubert, Milanese piano virtuoso Maurizio Pollini is also a fearless champion of modern works and composers. The icon is set to perform a rousing one-night-only program with the New York Philharmonic and its baton-wielding music director Jaap van Zweden in one of the special events of the season.

The evening begins with J. Wagenaar's Cyrano de Bergerac Overture, an imaginative operatic poem and lyrical Romantic vocabulary filled with rich tonal colour and orchestration. This is followed by Schumann's only piano concerto, a sublime cross between a concerto, grand sonata and symphony filled to the brim joyful and melodic movements and moments. The program comes to a close with Beethoven's Symphony No. 5, one of the composer's most celebrated, respected and instantly recognisable pieces thanks to its four simple and incredibly effective opening notes and epic grand finale.
