New York City Ballet: Swan Lake at David H Koch Theater

Why see New York City Ballet: Swan Lake?

The Enduring Classic

The legendary New York City Ballet presents a masterful retelling of the Tchaikovsky-Pepita classic melded with the nuances of George Balanchine's daring and Lev Ivanov's vision of Swan Lake, deftly brought together under the creative eye of Danish danseur and choreographer Peter Martins. This glittering full-length production boasts the lucidity, speed and precision that the NYCB is renowned for while keeping elements from the traditional score, culminating in a must-see for first-timers and seasoned fans alike. Defined by Tschaikovsky's poignant music and the challenging dual role of Odette/Odile, combines technical prowess with profound emotional depth.

What Is The Story Of Swan Lake?

The dashing Prince Siegfried is under pressure from his mother to marry soon and produce an heir, what's more he and must choose his spouse at the following evening's Royal Ball. Frustrated, he goes hunting with his friends, and after becoming separated, is stunned when one of the swans he marks for prey transforms into a beautiful woman before his eyes. He falls deeply in love, but the woman, Odette, is terrified of him. Upon winning her trust, she divulges that she and her companions are victims of an evil curse, cast by the sorcerer Von Rothbart. They are trapped on the lake, transforming into humans come dusk. The only way to break this spell is for one who has never before loved to love her, The Swan Queen. Can Siegfried and Odette break this vicious enchantment? A timeless fusion of romance, magic, and adventure, there's nothing like the New York City Ballet's Swan Lake!
