Composed by Aram Khachaturian in 1954, it wasn't until 14 years later in 1968 that it finally premiered at the Bolshoi in Moscow, with the powerful choreography of Yuri Grigorovich. Requiring a physical and highly intense performance from it's star, with the contrast of sensitivity that translates the radiance of Spartacus' journey

Who is Spartacus?

A former King, Spartacus and his wife Phrygia are kidnapped by the Romans and sold in to slavery. Whilst his wife is sent off to satisfy the whims of the Emperor, Spartacus must entertain the city as a cut-throat Gladitator, leading him to kill his best friend and incite a slave rebellion...
