Our Mother's Brief Affair

Why see Our Mother's Brief Affair?

A Mother's Secret

The Manhattan Theatre Club presents its eleventh collaboration with Tony-winning playwright Richard Greenburg. Known for his insightful and wryly comic portrayals of middle-class America, Greenburg came to real prominence in 2003 with Take Me Out, which followed the ramifications of a football star's public coming out. His last piece to be staged by MTC was 2013's The Assembled Parties.

Our Mother's Brief Affair, which centers on a startling revelation that has far reaching consequences, stars Tony and Golden Globe winner Linda Lavin in the lead role. Having been a fixture on the Broadway stage since the early Sixties, Lavin has one of The Great White Way's most impressive CVs, alongside numerous film and TV credits, such as the beloved CBS show Alice. The MTC's Artistic Director Lynne Meadow (Wit) directs.

What is Our Mother's Brief Affair About?

Twins Seth and Abby fly into New York to care for their ailing mother Anna. Determined that her children should remember her as something more than an unremarkable Long Island housewife, Anna reveals to them that she once had an affair. Initially shocked, Seth and Abby begin to question just how much of the story can be blamed on Anna's increasingly senile mind, and how much is true.
