Why see The Addams Family?

They're Creepy and they're kooky

The ghoulish Addams Family is in for quite a shock in this brand-new staging of the Tony-nominated musical from Phoneix Productions! When Wednesday Addams announces that she has a normal human boyfriend, and worse still, he's coming round for dinner with his parents, the Addams decide to put on a feast he'll never forget!

Created by Jersey Boys scribes Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, this macabre treat first opened on Broadway in 2000 and has gone on to become a musical of choice for local theaters countrywide. The Tony-nominated, finger-clicking score comes courtesy of Andrew Lippa, whose music was most recently heard on Broadway in Big Fish. Mercury Executive Director L. Walter Stearns directs.

What is the story?

The Addams Family are a little, well, different. They live in a ghostly old building, are never seen wearing anything other than black, and may not all be completely human. So it's to the family's horror that the youngest daughter Wednesday announces one day that she has a 'normal' human boyfriend called Lucas. Agreeing to make the best of this ghastly situation, Gomez and Morticia Addams grudgingly invite Lucas' parents over for dinner. As you might expect, the evening doesn't go quite according to plan...

Fantastic

We saw this last night (March 8th) what a show. Nathan Lane is fantastic as Gomez. Seeing Bebe Neuwirth in her Morticia outfit is worth the price of two tickets alone but besides being beautiful she sings and dances like you could never imagine Lilith could ever do. The rest of the cast did a fine job as well and the set is amazing. The story idea was good but a bit odd but it is the Addams Family and they make a good fit. This is a must see as long as Bebe Neuwirth and Nathan Lane remain the lead actors. Uncle Fester, Wednesday, Pugsley , Grandmama and Lurch all had actors who played them very strongly and where a good fit bringing the Addams Family together. Thing and Cousin It also made appearances. ... Read more

The Definition Of Entertainment

My wife and I were privileged enough to be at the Thursday March 11th performance. As a late bloomer to the theatre scene, of course one of my necessary quests is to see Nathan Lane in ANYTHING, but to have him star in the cast of my favorite boyhood TV show was overwhelming. The entire cast was brilliant, the songs ripe and humorous. And BeBe as Morticia rekindled those old feelings I once had for Carolyn Jones..she is a show stealer. I must also add that the audience was a major part of the excitement. It was the best audience I have ever been in-everyone shared it all together. The chemistry of the actors feeding off the crowd and the crowd digging the play was wonderful. There was a standing ovation for them at the end. Sure it was a compliment, but it just seemed necessary as repayment for the enjoyment they had just provided. ... Read more
