Sir Richard Eyre's award winning revival of Ibsen's Ghosts transfers to Brooklyn's Academy of Music this April. The production enjoyed a critically acclaimed run in London's West End in 2013, and was awarded three Olivier Awards and nominated for a further two. Lesley Manville, a West End stage veteran and frequently seen in the films of Mike Leigh, reprises her lead role.
Dealing with taboo subjects such as incest and venereal disease, Ghosts was seen as a scandalous work when it was first performed in 1892. The story follows the widow Helene Alving as she tries to start her life anew after the death of her philandering husband. She is determined that her son Oswald will not follow the same path through life as his father, but when Oswald returns home from a trip to France, she discovers that she may already be too late.
Lesley Manville as Helene Alving
Charlene McKenna as Regina
Brian McCardie as Jacob Engstand
Will Keen as Pastor Manders
Billy Howie as Oswald Alving
Adapted & Directed by Richard Eyre
Written by Henrik Ibsen
