If You Could Turn Back Time
If you could find a way... Would you? Hit Sundance movie Safety Not Guaranteed is having its musical premiere in Brooklyn this fall, and will be directed by Obie award winner Lee Sunday Evans. Derek Connolly's award-winning work has been adapted for the stage by Nick Blaemire, with music by Guster guitarist Ryan Miller. What better way to unravel the mysteries of time travel and lost love than with a song?
The 2012 movie starred Aubrey Plaza and Jake Johnson and was surprisingly based on true events, of a sort. In 1997 a magazine editor placed a joke ad in his publication stating "Wanted: Somebody to go back in time with me. This is not a joke. P.O. Box 322 Oakview, CA 93022. You'll get paid after we get back. Must bring your own weapons. Safety not guaranteed. I have only done this once before." The ad was featured on national television and radio shows and was picked up as inspiration by Connolly for his manuscript.
What Is The Story?
Young journalist Darius finds a strange ad in the classifieds, seeking a partner to join him on an adventure back in time, but there may be more to his journey than meets the eye.
