Shining City

Shining City at Irish Repertory Theater

Why see Shining City?

An intimate and incredible new play

Two-time Tony Award Winner Matthew Broderick returns to Broadway in this evocative Dublin set play for the Irish Repertory Theatre, as the first production in the newly refurbished theatre. Examining a mesh of city lives that whirl and eddy together whilst searching for a place to call home, Shining City is directed by Ciaran O'Reilly, with Billy Carter, Lisa Dwan and James Russell starring alongside Broderick.

At the heart of the play is the relationship between John, a recent widower and his therapist, former priest Ian. Far from just working through his grief, John has further problems, his late wife Mari has begun to haunt their home, terrifying him into fleeing to a local bed and breakfast. As Ian meets with his other patients, the play develops a nuance that goes far beyond conversation, keeping the audience rapt until the last second.
