Look Back In Anger

Look Back In Anger at Laura Pels Theater

Why see Look Back In Anger?

A Fiery Reimagining

Sink your teeth into this ferocious, contemporary adaptation of John Osbourne's groundbreaking drama Look Back in Anger (1956) to commemorate Almeida's Angry and Young season! Look Back in Anger, a pivotal work in the British 'Angry Young Men' movement, challenges the conventional wisdom of British theatre and society in a way like before, and is directed by Atri Banerjee (The Glass Menagerie; Julius Caesar).

The Story Of Look Back In Anger

Jimmy Porter has a long history of feeling hopelessness and rage, something he recalls clearly from as far back as he can remember. Dissatisfied with his routine life involving running a neighbourhood stand in the wake of war, Jimmy finds a grudge growing within him aimed at the wealthy family of his wife Alison, caused by a society that wants to exclude him. Tensions in their marriage rise as Jimmy loses his temper in fits of rage, and when an unannounced visit from one of Alison's friends leads to a rift, one thing becomes crystal clear: it's time for their friends to intervene.

Fantastic

Omg, I loved this so much! First, seeing the movie on the big screen was a treat. I always thought if it as a campy comedy but today is was romantic, scary, intriguing, clever, and triumphant. I love how the audience cheered with the characters. Cary was so great too. In-person, he is so charming. An 11 year old girl asked a question and he went out to the crowd to meet her and make her feel special. Another generation if fans is born. He was so sweet and respectful about his cast members too. Such a fun and heart warming night. I need to go buy his book. ... Read more
