Hangmen

Hangmen at Linda Gross Theater

Why see Hangmen?

north american premiere

After an absence from the stage of nearly a decade, Oliver and Oscar winner Martin McDonagh makes a triumphant return with Hangmen, his new play that explores the death of capital punishment in Britain. Already a hit over on the West End at the Royal Court Theatre, Hangmen is replete with McDonagh's voice, darkly comic, thrilling and uniquely entertaining. You may know him from his work on Seven Psychopaths and In Bruges. If you enjoyed them, the macabre and witty Hangmen is the play for you.

WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

In his small pub in Oldham in the north of England, Harry holds something of a local celebrity allure; his claim to fame? He is the second most well-known hangmen in the country, second only to Albert Pierrepoint. But what is Harry to do on the day they've abolished hanging, and to a larger extent, the death penalty? Meandering in the background of the pub, behind the cub reporters and sycophantic pub regulars who are dying to hear Harry's reaction to the news, a stranger lurks, with a very different motive for his visit.
