Audra McDonald returns to Broadway in the iconic musical
It's happening! The incredible multi-Tony winner Audra McDonald is finally stepping back on stage in this brand-new production of Jule Styne, Stephen Sondheim, and Arthur Laurent's fable of show business. Directed by George C Wolfe and choreographed by Camille A Brown, Audra's Gypsy will reopen the Majestic Theatre in November 2024, offering Broadway audiences a chance to be bowled over by McDonald as she plays the iconic Momma Rose, alongside Danny Burnstein as Herbie!
Audra McDonald, A six-time Tony winner, has been delighting audiences on the Great White Way since the early 90s, with her turn in Carosel earning her first Tony in 1995. More recently, McDonald has won accolades for her work in Porgy and Bess and Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill. With two Grammys and an Emmy on the way, she's well on her way to EGOT status, alongside continually delivering goosebump-inducing performances in anything she does.
Considered by some critics to be the greatest American musical of all time, Gypsy is a musical fable about the perils of ambition and the trappings of fame. Set in depression-era America, the story follows the indomitable Rose, who forces her daughters into the world of vaudeville. As Rose's children become famous performers, and their act grows increasingly risque, they begin to break free from her influence, leading her to question her approach in dramatic style.
Shanel Bailey, Jace Bently, Brandon Burks, Hunter Capellán, Tony d’Alelio, Summer Rae Daney, Kellie Jean Hoagland, Aliah James, Brittney Johnson, Zachary Daniel Jones, Ethan Joseph, Andrew Kober, Krystal Mackie, James McMenamin, Cole Newburg, Majo Rivero, Sally Shaw, Brendan Sheehan, Thomas Silcott, Jayden Theophile, and Jordan Wynn. Additional standby and understudy casting will be announced shortly.
