Metropolitan Opera - Cinderella at Metropolitan Opera House

Why see Metropolitan Opera - Cinderella?

YOU SHALL GO TO THE BALL

Jules Massenet's enchanting adaptation of the enduring Cinderella returns to the Met this winter, continuing the new tradition of putting on accessible opera open to all ages during the holidays! This fantastic English language production comes from the imagination of Laurent Pelly after a hit run during the 2017/18 season. Romantic and glittering, Pelly's creation is a witty and elegant adaptation, with astoundingly pretty sets and costumes full of rococo flourish and fairytale magic. A perfect engagement for the first time opera-goer.

Once upon a time

When her father remarries a spiky and spoilt Madame after her mother's death, Cinderella is cast as a servant in her own house. Whilst her stepmother and mean spirited step-sisters prepare for a lavish Royal ball, Cinderella has only chores to do. But when she finds herself alone and reflecting on her sorry situation she discovers help is at hand in the form of a Fairy Godmother, who won't let her sit this dance out! Enchanted and transformed into the fairest maiden in the land Cinderella heads to the ball where she catches the eye of a very important suitor...
