Metropolitan Opera - Gotterdammerung

Metropolitan Opera - Gotterdammerung at Metropolitan Opera House

Why see Metropolitan Opera - Gotterdammerung?

The final curtain

Prepare yourself for The Met's revival of Wagner's spectacular Ring Cycle, last seen in 2013. A popular favorite with all audiences, the sprawling saga invites you to enter a dense world of warring Gods, monsters and mythology, scored by one of opera's most famous and bombastic composers. Magnificent in scope and featuring some of the most unforgettable music in the repertoire, don't miss your chance to see it performed by the renowned company, in one of the most glorious and sumptuous productions on the planet.

The crashing culmination in the Cycle, Gotterdammerung is a masterclass in trickery and sacrifice with the heroes Siegfried and Brunnhilde facing their biggest challenge yet. Christine Goerke reprises her role as Brunnhilde, with Stefan Vinke and Andreas Schager as the poorly led Siegfried.

Gotterdammerung

Having won his beloved Brunnhilde, Siegfried gives her the Ring of Power as a token of his love before seeking out new adventures. But his course is interrupted by the callous siblings Gunther and Guntrue and Hagen, son of the cunning dwarf Albericjh, who maliciously trick him into marrying another, sending Brunnhilde into utter despair.

Too late, Siegfried realises the the deception he has been party to, leaving Brunnhilde no option but to make one last attempt to save her happiness, by restoring the accursed Ring to the bereft Rhinemaidens, thus restoring the natural order of the universe - ending the reign of the Gods forever.
