Metropolitan Opera - La Traviata

Why see Metropolitan Opera - La Traviata?

Perhaps he is the one

Michael Mayer's stunning production of Verdi's heartbreaking classic returns to the Met for its 2022/23 season. The sweeping tale of love set against the backdrop of a decadent Paris will play out against a stunning set that changes with the season, illustrating the fleeting nature of Violetta and Alfredo's doomed, but exquisitely beautiful romance. Nadine Sierra, Ermonela Jaho, and Angel Blue share the role of Violetta, alongside Stephen Costello, Ismael Jordi, and Dmytro Popov as Alfredo.

What is the story of La Traviata

As one of the most beautiful courtesans of Paris, the alluring Violetta has many admirers but has let none of these wealthy suitors near her heart, preferring their generosity with their wallets to their baser attentions. It is in this world she meets Alfredo, a handsome yet penniless member of the bourgeois who wins her love and whisks her away to a countryside idyll in the hope of escaping her past life. Can their passion survive the reality of poverty, reputation and illness, or will everything they have fought to flee overwhelm the strongest emotion of them all?
