Metropolitan Opera - Orfeo ed Euridice

Metropolitan Opera - Orfeo ed Euridice at Metropolitan Opera House

Why see Metropolitan Opera - Orfeo ed Euridice?

The Timeless Love Story

Captivating and ebullient, Mark Morris's Orfeo ed Euridice first debuted at the Met in 2007 and now returns as part of the 2023/24 Season. Vivid and contemporary, discover the ancient Greek myth once more with Anthony Roth Costanzo as Orfeo, tasked with diving into the underworld to retrieve his lover Eurydice (Ying Fang). Set to Gluck's inimitable score, this much-anticipated revival is conducted by Christian Curnyn.

What is the story?

Orfeo mourns his recently departed wife Eurydice at her tomb, despairing at the thought of living without her. When Amore offers him the chance to see her again, he accepts the quest, his heart full of a possible reunion. However, he must accept the terms of his task, when he rescues her, he is not to look upon her before they make their return. Orfeo stills his nerve and resolves to complete the journey, regardless of the implications.

With a dangerous journey to Elysium, the wrath of the Furies and one very confused lover, Orfeo and Eurydice is the perfect story for fans of opera, old and new.
