Why see Flex?
Dreaming of success
2023 Kesselring Prize winning playwright Candrice Jones makes her New York bow with FLEX, a compelling and inspiring new play about the hoops and hurdles faced by a high school girls' basketball team from a rural hometown. The Lady Train team dreams of becoming professional basketball players, but from the outset are beset by the challenges of marginalization, being young black female athletes in rural Plainnole. Will their personal struggles outside the court fracture their unity, or can they stand united through thick and thin?
Directed by Lincoln Center's Tony-nominated resident director Lileana Blain-Cruz (known for her work on The Skin of Our Teeth, Pipeline, and Marys Seacole), FLEX unfolds as a testament to the resilience and determination of a group of remarkable young women aiming for the top.
