Aladdin

Why see Aladdin?

Your Broadway Wish, Granted!

As seen at the 2023 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

The magic of Disney's Aladdin has been delighting audiences at the New Amsterdam Theatre since 2014! Join Aladdin, Jasmine and the hilarious Genie on a magic carpet ride you'll never forget with this Tony-winning adaptation of the 1992 film. Packing in romance and adventure, and all of your favorite songs from the film including, "A Whole New World" and "A Friend Like Me", this is the ultimate musical spectacular that all ages will enjoy!

A lushly costumed and vibrantly choreographed affair, Aladdin was nominated for five Tony Awards when it premiered in 2014. With direction from Tony winner Casey Nicholaw (The Book of Mormon), Aladdin is a sure-fire hit for all ages, whether you've seen the movie or not!

What is Aladdin About?

Plucky street urchin Aladdin's life is transformed forever when he ventures into the cave of Wonders and discovers a magical lamp. Out pops a manic Genie, who has the power to grant Aladdin three wishes. Aladdin's first wish is to be made into a prince, mainly so he can impress the city's beautiful Princess Jasmine, who he's sure could never love a pauper. But as love begins to blossom between Aladdin and Jasmine, there's trouble on the horizon. The nefarious statesman Jafar knows all about Aladdin's real identity and the power of the lamp, and is determined to secure the Genie's magic for himself!

Did You Know?

While this musical is based on the movie, it also includes some characters from the film's early drafts who were ultimately left out of the final cut, including Aladdin's three sidekicks Babkak, Omar and Kassim.

Favorite Broadway Play so far

My husband and I went the night before opening night! It was a wonderful show. Loved the costumes and scenery. The cast was great, especially the Genie. I had wondered how they were going to pull off the magic carpet but they did!! I do agree with the previous review, I think the part when Jafar is turned into a genie is rushed. Also, the ending was not as bombastic as other scenes. But overall it is my favorite of the 5 Broadway plays I have seen so far! ... Read more

Great show...weak finale.

Loved the movie. Show was fantastic until intermission. "Friend Like Me" scene was most fun I have ever had on Broadway. It got a genuine and enthusiastic standing ovation. After intermission, show fell apart. Rushed and underwhelming. Penultimate scene with Afar becoming an all powerful genie (which was a major element in the movie) was over in the blink of an eye. It was like they just lost interest after intermission. I hope they fix it because the rest of the show w as extraordinary. Sets and special effects were amazing but did not detract. Genie, Aladdin and Iago were outstanding. ... Read more
