"Marvelous... Mr. Gyllenhaal translates the intensity that has characterized his most memorable screen appearances into a searing theatrical presence, in which his eyes are his center of gravity."

After wowing in last year's Encores! revival of Little Shop of Horrors, Hollywood star Jake Gyllenhaal (Prisoners, Nightcrawler) is back at New York City Center. Alongside Broadway starlet Annaleigh Ashford, he leads the cast of this concert performance of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Sunday in the Park with George, which is being staged in honor of philanthropist Adrienne Arsht. One of Sondheim's finest works, this light and wonderfully original show includes the songs 'Color and Light', 'Gossip' and 'Finishing the Hat'.
Sunday in the Park with George revolves around painter Georges Seurat and his creation of his most famous painting - A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte. It explores the nature of artistic inspiration and the lives of all of the figures that Seurat immortalised on his canvas. Originally premiering on Broadway in 1984, it was showered with praise, winning two Tony Awards and picking up the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. This New York City Center staging is produced by Tony winner Jeanine Tesori.
