Why see Some Like It Hot?

Don't let the flame go out, some like it hot

Don't miss J. Harrison Ghee's 2023 Tony Award-winning performance - must end December 30, 2023.

Winner of four 2023 Tonys and eight Drama Desk Awards! The classic black and white romantic comedy Some Like It Hot bursts onto the stage in full technicolor during a brand new imagining of Billy Wilder's 1959 musical mobster classic. Widely considered one of the most influential and celebrated filmmakers of the Golden Era of Hollywood cinema, Wilder brought together silver screen legends Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon for bonafide box office success, creating one of the most beloved films of the MGM canon in the process.

Transferring the cherished madcap caper to the stage is no mean feat, but thanks to Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (the writing, composing and directing duo behind Tony-winning musical Hairspray), playwright Matthew Lopez (The Inheritance), choreographer Casey Nicholaw (Dream Girls, The Book Of Mormon, Aladdin) and the Shubert Organization, Some Like It Hot is in eminently capable hands.

What Is Some Like It Hot About?

An American farce as it gets, Some Like It Hot begins with a Mafia murder witnessed by smooth-operating saxophone player Joe and his room and bandmate Jerry. Masters of improvisation in jazz and in their everyday lives, they find a way to escape Chicago before being sent to sleep with the fishes. Disguising themselves as women, they join an all-female jazz ensemble and hop on a train to Florida. Later, Joe dons the persona of a wealthy businessman to win over the outfit's feisty frontwoman Sugar and Jerry finds himself being pursued by a real millionaire whilst the mobsters close in...

A wonderful romp back to what Broadway SHOULD be all about!

This show brings what live musical theater was meant to bring: incredible performers cast perfectly, wonderful stagecraft, amazing (AMAZING) dance numbers across the gambit, an all-star, torch singing ingénue with a world-class voice, and personable leads that are a treasure to watch. SOME LIKE IT HOT is set to a big band jazz-oriented score that won a Tony for its orchestrations (and 3 others!). The best thing that could happen for this amazing, toe-tapping, hysterical yet thought-provoking musical is for it to sent out on several tours and shared with the world. Not only is it a bombastic piece of musical entertainment for the whole family based on the movie by the same name but it thoughtfully asserts itself on current day issues of identity while staying honest to the plot and zany show biz aura of the original piece of work. I can't say enough about this show - I saw it twice on Broadway and I live in California! Make a night of it in the City and just GO! ... Read more
