Why see A Wonderful World?

A New World For Broadway

A Wonderful World, a musical about the life, times, and music of jazz legend Louis Armstrong will make its Broadway debut this fall, starring Tony Award winner James Monroe Iglehart as the lauded trumpeteer. Featuring some of Armstrong's most iconic songs, the production has an original book by This Is Us screenwriter Aurin Squire and direction from Tony nominee Christopher Renshaw.

With celebrated engagements in Miami (where it premiered with Miami New Drama in 2021) New Orleans and Chicago, A Wonderful World pays tribute to Armstrony's legacy and includes some of his most famous tunes: "I Can't Give You Anything But Love," "What a Wonderful World," and "When You're Smiling."

Speaking on the show's Broadway transfer, Iglehart said: "I am so excited to bring this wonderful brand-new musical to Broadway. American music wouldn't be what it is today without Louis Armstrong and what is Broadway if not American music?"

What Is The Story?

Told from the perspectives of the women in his life, A Wonderful World chronicles Armstrong's journey from the genesis of trad jazz in his home city of New Orleans to mainstream recognition, punctuated by the poignant history of the civil rights movement and America's complicated relationship with race relations.
