Gilberto Gil is a towering figure for the modern day Brazil. He's been exploring Brazil's diverse cultural cache through his music since he was young boy, for which he was recognised in 2003 when he was appointed the country's Cultural Minister, a post he held for five years.
Since the 1960s, Gil has tackled everything from jazz and reggae, to samba and even electronica. His list of influences include Yes and Pink Floyd, with whom he performed with in London following his 1969 exile for satarising the Brazillian Military Government. His most recent record celebrated the legacy of Brazilian music's other famous Giberto (Joao Gilberto) with a record of bossa nova rhythms infused with subtle electronic flourishes. It was another album full of what Gil does best - honoring the country's musical heritage while ever so slightly updating it. Catch the maestro when he plays in , ,
