Scandal's Joe Morton is Dick Gregory in this brand new play about the trailblazing comic who co-opted his fame into becoming a leading light of the civil rights movement, becoming as outspoken in his politics as in his stand-up routines.
First beginning his career whilst serving in the military in the 1950s, Gregory is regarded highly as part of the generation of black comics that broke with tradition, entertaining while audiences, whilst calling attention to the ridiculousness of bigotry. Spotted by Hugh Hefner, he took a gig at the Playboy Club before finding mainstream success.

Gretchen Law's work explores the man behind the message and celebrates his ongoing dedication to entertainment and activism, even today as a spritely 83-year-old!
Co-produced by John Legend and including an original song from the maestro himself, prepare for an intriguing work about an even more intriguing man.
